Editing

I was put into a team where there was urgent requirement for team members. It was huge project that had to be delivered in few days. When I reached the bay I was introduced to the team and the team coordinator explained to me the project work. I was glad that finally I became a technical writer and things were automatically falling into their place.

I understood that the project was focused on editing task and not writing. Infact, I didn’t do any writing in this project. All that I did was check for any missing images, punctuation errors, any problem with the links in the topic, and visibility issues. If I come across any such issues in the webpage then I should log bugs, i.e., log an error or complaint in the system.

But I have no regrets! In this way I learnt what is editing and how to edit a work. Editing involves lot of other tasks as well. Altogether, it is a different skill. Good editing skills can do wonders to a badly written script. Editing can catch the grammatical errors, punctuation errors, incorrect usage of words, formatting errors and also other issues that I had mentioned with in my project work.

Editing is a must for any written article. There are many benefits when you put the article through editing. It will catch all the big and small grammatical and punctuation errors, formatting errors, or remove unnecessary words or sentences that the writer may have missed. When the editor checks these errors, it prevents embarrassment to the writer after the work has been published. It saves additional costs to the writer and also prevents any possibility of legal issues like plagiarism.

So when you write next time edit it yourself first keeping in mind all the checks that you need to do. You will certainly see a lot of change.
